The FKF Premier League on Thursday signed a ten-year sponsorship deal worth Ksh 1.12 billion with a gaming firm.

According to the deal the 2025/2026 season is expected to be sponsored to the tune of 85 million giving the league a major boost.

The partnership, which grants the firm exclusive naming rights to the FKF Premier League, marks a fresh chapter in Kenyan football.

It also marks the sponsor's return to the local football scene after a successful stint between 2015 and 2019.

That time they cited “punitive measures” by regulators including delayed licence renewal and the suspension of paybill numbers which resulted in a significant reduction in the level of business operations.

The Kenyan Premier League has been without a sponsor since August 2021 when another betting firm cancelled all sports sponsorship in Kenya with immediate effect.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed described the deal as a turning point for the sport, especially after years of financial struggles and limited private sector backing.

"A transformative chapter begins for Kenyan football. After enduring challenges in attracting sponsorship, this renewed support signals hope and progress," said Mohammed.

Under the agreement, 60% of the sponsorship funds will go directly to FKF Premier League clubs as grants.

The remaining 40% will cater for administrative and operational costs aimed at improving the league's structure and day-to-day running.

The long-term nature of the deal is expected to usher in financial stability and increased competitiveness across the league.

The partnership aims to elevate standards on and off the pitch, impacting clubs, players, and fans alike.

The gaming firm’s CEO expressed confidence in the league’s potential to return to its former glory.

“We are excited to rekindle this partnership. Football in Kenya has so much potential. With consistent effort, we believe the golden days can return.”

The sponsorship is a huge relief to FKF, which has operated without a league sponsor in recent seasons.

In some cases, even league champions have gone unrewarded, highlighting the federation's financial struggles.

This new deal, however, promises a more stable and promising future for Kenyan football.
