1 week ago 4

Maurice Ryan, a respected showbiz events organiser and a key figure at Kaka Empire, has died following complications from brain surgery. His passing on Sunday, July 6, 2025, was confirmed by family members and has since sent shockwaves through the Kenyan entertainment industry.

Known for his passion for music and talent development, Maurice was more than just a promoter—he was a trusted friend and mentor to many artists. In the months leading up to his death, he had openly shared his battle with illness on social media, keeping fans updated and maintaining unwavering faith in God’s healing.

One of his last posts hinted at the toll the illness had taken on him but remained hopeful. His death marks the loss of a man deeply embedded in the foundation of many artists’ careers and a driving force behind some of Kenya’s most memorable entertainment moments.

King Kaka, founder of Kaka Empire, paid tribute to Maurice in a post that revealed the depth of their relationship, calling him “My Brother” and admitting, “My heart is broken.” The message was accompanied by a poignant photo of Maurice from happier times.

Other artists quickly followed with emotional tributes. Rapper Femi One responded to King Kaka’s post with a simple but heartfelt message: “Moreeee Manze. May his soul rest in peace.”

Khaligraph Jones, another powerhouse in Kenyan music, shared a photo of Maurice with the message, “Rest Easy Champ,” while Genge veteran Mejja expressed disbelief, saying, “Nimepigiwa na Ken, sijaamini. Mtu roho safi na plug wangu wa Kisumu Nikifika,” highlighting just how close Maurice was to artists on a personal level.

Afrobeat artist Nebulazz recounted the story of how he introduced Maurice to King Kaka back in 2012, long before Maurice became a key figure in artist management. “He covered all the costs that day. He didn’t want King Kaka to spend a dime,” Nebulazz recalled in a touching throwback post.

Wallan Black, a rapper who once received a career opportunity through Maurice, remembered him as someone who genuinely wanted others to succeed. “Rest in peace Amigo… He called me and set a meeting at Acacia Hotel. I couldn’t take the opportunity at the time, but he told me to wait out my contract. That was the kind of man he was—patient and loyal.”

Maurice Ryan’s contributions extended far beyond event organisation. As a behind-the-scenes pillar at Kaka Empire, he helped shape the careers of many young talents and brought professionalism and heart into the Kenyan entertainment industry. His legacy will live on through the lives he impacted, the music he championed, and the friendships he nurtured.

The entertainment world now mourns not just the loss of a promoter, but of a visionary who brought people together and believed in the power of art and unity.
