Kenyaβs security agencies have been praised for their exceptional role in ensuring the successful and peaceful hosting of the recently concluded African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 tournament.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed acknowledged the dedication, coordination, and professionalism displayed by the countryβs security forces during the CHAN event.
Speaking during a breakfast meeting with sector commanders from various security agencies, Hussein Mohammed expressed deep appreciation for their tireless efforts, saying their commitment was key to delivering a seamless and safe tournament.
βTheir coordination and professionalism were second to none. Weβre proud of the work done and look forward to continued collaboration to guarantee safety in all our future matches,β he said.
Special recognition was given to top security officials who played key roles in the success of the tournament including Tom Odero, Deputy Director of Operations and CHAN Focal Point β Kenya Police Service, George Seda, Assistant Inspector General and Host City Commander β Nairobi.
Others are Edward O. Achola, AIG and Deputy CHAN Commandant β RBPU and Dr. Resila Onyango, Commander of the Close Protection Police Officers β Diplomatic Police Unit
The meeting also served as a planning session for upcoming events, with security arrangements being fine-tuned ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where Kenya will lock horns with The Gambia this Friday, and Seychelles next Tuesday.
As Kenya eyes more international tournaments, FKF maintains that strong security infrastructure remains a cornerstone for successful hosting.
