Watch: Archaeologists in Peru Unveil 3,500-Year-Old City | Subscribe to Firstpost Archaeologists on Thursday (July 3) revealed the discovery of a 3,500-year-old city in Peru, believed to have been a key trading hub connecting Pacific coastal societies with those in the Andes and Amazon regions. Named Penico, the city dates back to between 1800 and 1500 BC and is located in the northern province of Barranca. It lies near the site of the ancient Caral civilisation, which is regarded as the oldest in the Americas, dating back 5,000 years. Caral featured 32 monumental structures and is considered a contemporary of early civilisations in Egypt, India, Sumer, and China.
