Victor Otieno Juma, popularly known as VOJ and the Head of Ramogi FM, recently marked a major milestone in his personal life as he married his longtime partner, Zainabu Atieno, in a vibrant traditional Luo wedding. The colourful ceremony took place on June 20, 2025, at the bride’s family home on the picturesque Mfangano Island in Homa Bay County.

The wedding, known locally as Nyombo, was a lively celebration of love, culture, and community. VOJ made a memorable entrance at Mzee Okanda’s home, accompanied by a group of well-dressed friends and colleagues. Among the guests were several high-profile media personalities and local leaders, including Jay Bonyo, the Managing Editor of Ramogi TV, Allan Obiero, Royal Media Services Bureau Chief in Kisumu, and Citizen TV’s Trevor Ombija. The ceremony was officiated by the renowned Seventh-Day Adventist evangelist, Michael Orienje, whose humorous and engaging approach added a special touch to the day.

In keeping with Luo marriage customs, VOJ’s entourage arrived with gifts and paid a bride price of 10 cows to Zainabu’s family. This gesture was widely praised, with many noting it as one of the largest bride prices paid in the region in recent times. Dressed smartly in a grey suit, VOJ followed tradition by remaining silent throughout the negotiations. His spokesperson, Festus Amimo, led the proceedings, passionately presenting Juma’s case to the bride’s family and securing their approval.

Reflecting on the significance of the day, VOJ shared that the event was not only a personal milestone but also an important cultural moment. He explained that working in a vernacular station had deepened his connection to Luo traditions, making it important for him to lead by example. He described the ceremony as a rite of passage symbolizing his transition from bachelorhood to marriage and affirming his lifelong commitment to Zainabu.

The celebrations lasted two days, wrapping up on June 21, with the couple dazzling their guests in beautifully crafted African attire. Friends and relatives from far and wide made the journey across Lake Victoria to Mfangano Island to witness the occasion. VOJ expressed his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who showed their support, noting how touched he was by the overwhelming love from colleagues and friends across various media houses and local communities.

Victor also encouraged fellow men to embrace customary marriage rites, reminding them that traditional unions are recognized under Kenya’s Marriage Act of 2014. He highlighted the importance of honoring family and cultural heritage through such ceremonies.

Victor Juma and Zainabu Atieno’s love story spans an impressive 14 years, and their wedding served as a beautiful testament to their dedication and shared values. As they embark on this new chapter, their wedding continues to be remembered as one of the most inspiring and culturally rich celebrations of 2025.
