Underrate promoted Nairobi United at own peril, Coach Selebwa warns KPL teamsNairobi United players and technical bench celebrate winning the 2024/25 National Super League, earning promotion to the Kenyan Premier League.

FKF Cup Champions Nairobi United are in the FKF-PL to compete and win titles,  former AFC Leopards head coach Gilbert Selebwa has said, firing a warning shot to Kenyan Premier League teams, against underrating the newbies.

United, fondly known as Naibois managed to topple a number of top-tier teams to reach the FKF Cup final smashing Gor Mahia 2-1 to be crowned champions for their first time in the club’s history.

The win automatically earned them a ticket to feature in the CAF Confederations Cup next season. Despite them being promoted to the top tier league, Selebwa is convinced they will not be an easy to beat team.

"It's a historic moment for them and we should salute their head coach Nicolas Muyoti for the brilliant work he has done to achieve that.

“He was my player in 1998 when I was the team manager at AFC Leopards, the same year we won our last league title, and you can see what he is capable of doing, when given the needful support," said Selebwa.

"He is so experienced and this is why he has helped the boys to topple top teams to clinch the Cup title," he continued.

United who are patroned by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja were promoted to the top-tier league after being crowned NSL Champions and Selebwa is confident they have what it takes to match the bigwigs like champions Kenya Police, Gor Mahia, Tusker,  AFC Leopards, among others.

"I want to thank Nairobi United for they had only one objective which is to play in the Kenyan Premier League,” he continued. “When you look at their stats,  they have been very consistent in the NSL, they have won a lot of matches and played very well just to make that statement - they are ready - for the big boys come next season,"Selebwa said.

United will now have to bolster their squad in preparation for the continental tournament.
