Organised by the opposition's Republican People's Party (CHP), the protesters chanted “Against fascism, shoulder to shoulder” and “President İmamoğlu”. Despite his arrest on March 23, 2025, he remains the CHP’s presidential candidate for the 2028 election. On July 2, over 100 people linked to CHP were arrested in İzmir in a corruption probe. The CHP accuses President Erdoğan’s government of manipulating the judiciary, while the president insists on its independence.
