TIL that during Prohibition in the 1920s, the U.S. government deliberately ordered industrial alcohol to be poisoned to scare people from drinking it. Bootleggers, however, stole and resold this alcohol anyway. It’s estimated this federal program killed at least 10,000 American citizens.
