Sonosβs built in voice controller moves beyond music control to smart lighting with a new partnership with Philips Hue.
Hue is teaming up with Sonos to let you control your smart lights using its built-in voice assistant. As rumored, the new function, which launched at IFA 2025 this week, lets you turn your Hue lights on, off, and dim them, as well as control scenes, simply by asking your speaker. The controller processes everything locally, so it should result in faster response times than cloud-based solutions used by most voice assistants.
This is the first use case outside of music for the Sonos voice assistant, but itβs just the beginning of the Hue-Sonos integration. George Yianni, CTO and founder of Philips Hue, says they have bigger plans for the future. βThereβs a lot of crossover in our customer bases and we have a roadmap of use cases planned,β he says. βThink lights that support the mood that you want to create when youβre playing music, or music that can help enhance the scenes that youβre recalling on the lighting side.β
