Woman accused of stealing Ksh.2.6 million from employer granted Ksh.50K bail

An Eldoret woman has denied stealing Ksh. 2.6 million from her employer and spending part of the money to maintain her lifestyle.

Appearing before presiding magistrate Kyene Odhiambo Gweno, Maureen Saina was charged of stealing the said money from her employer, Celtic Communication Limited.

According to the charge sheet, Ms Saina committed the offence on diverse dates between August 2, 2024 and August 22, 2025 at Celtic Communication Ltd.

The accused had been employed at the company where she was entrusted with the custody of various amounts of money.

However, in August this year, her employer discovered that she had been stealing the company money totaling to more than Ksh. 2.6 million.

A report was made to the police leading to her arrest before being processed and arraigned in court where she was charged with the said offence.

Her lawyer Oscar Odour pleaded to the court to grant her reasonable bond/bail terms saying that she was a law abiding citizen.

She brought to the attention of the senior resident magistrate that she was in talks with her former employer with a view to settle the matter out of court instead of proceeding to full trial.

In his ruling, Gweno directed that the accused person be freed on a bond of Ksh. 1 million or a cash bail of Ksh. 50,000.
