Using water in a Leluv cylinder?

I've been pumping sporadically (very sporadically) for about a year, using only a Leluv cylinder and Magna pump (not Pro+). I have benefited from this, in EQ if nothing else.

I recently saw on gettingbigger a picture of someone using a Leluv cylinder with water in it. That makes sense because it significantly reduces the amount of air the pump has to move, making it easier on the pump and the cycles can be much faster. There was an air gap at the top of the cylinder, but that means you have to keep the cylinder upright at all times.

What happens if the pump entrains water? I'm guessing it's trashed? If so, has anyone tried using a water trap inline in the hose between the pump and the cylinder? That would be some type of container with one hose from the cylinder extending to the bottom of the container, and the other hose to the pump not extending into the container at all.
