Police in Kikuyu have arrested a University of Nairobi student suspected of fatally stabbing his roommate after a dispute over bathroom use.
The victim, identified as Brian Wambui, a third-year student, succumbed to suspected stabbing injuries.
According to witnesses, the roommatesβ dispute emerged from toilet use and cleaning.
The two quarelled over who should flush and clean the hostel toilet.
Omondi Ogola, a police officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kikuyu confirmed the incident, calling for alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
βPreliminarily, we have been informed that the cause of the quarrel was a disagreement over the ablution block. The disagreement escalated and friends of the deceased joined in. That is when the suspect dashed to the house to get a weapon to defend himself,β said Ogola.
His body was moved to PCEA Thogoto Hospital mortuary for post-mortem, while the suspect, Justus Otieno, is being held at Kikuyu Police Station pending investigations and arraignment.
