![]() | I honestly feel like Nigerians still don’t understand what democracy really is. Put simply: the people are the leaders. We only choose someone (the president, governor, senator, etc.) to represent us. That’s it. The president is not the “leader of Nigeria.” He answers to us. If he messes up, impeachment is an option. The power he has is power we gave him. But many of us have been brainwashed to think we’re powerless. That’s exactly what those in power want. Think about it — if every single one of us decided not to listen to Tinubu, what could he actually do? We could literally walk to Aso Villa and remove him, and there’s nothing he could do about it. And even during elections, if the votes don’t match what the people truly want, we still have the power to reject that outcome. Democracy doesn’t end at casting ballots; it’s about making sure the people’s choice is what stands. This applies to every form of government. Even the military — most soldiers don’t get paid properly except the ones at the top. At the end of the day, they are citizens too. They can choose to obey or not. So when people say “as an average citizen, you can’t do anything,” that’s a lie. In a democracy, we hold the real power — not the politicians. submitted by /u/PureFrosting7556 [link] [comments] |
