Two suspects have been arrested and huge quantities of drugs and illicit alcohol destroyed in a major multi-agency crackdown led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) in Sigalagala area , Kakamega South.
The operation, conducted in collaboration with a specialized unit of the Administration Police, targeted a key narcotics and brewing network long blamed for poisoning the youth in the region.
Among those arrested is John Lisulu, the alleged main supplier of cannabis sativa to students of Sigalagala National Polytechnic. A second suspect was apprehended during simultaneous raids on five illegal brewing dens along the banks of River Yala.
Authorities destroyed over 5,000 litres of changβaa and 100,000 litres of βSigalagalaβ brew, a highly potent illicit alcohol notorious in the area.
Speaking after the operation, NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anthony Omerikwa warned traffickers and brewers that the crackdown will be sustained and intensified under the governmentβs 100-Day Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) against substance abuse.
βTo those merchants of death who are hell-bent on destroying the future of our children, hear this clearly: we are not relenting. This war is far from over. We shall not sit and watch as our childrenβs future is destroyed by drugs and illicit alcohol,β Dr. Omerikwa declared.
He affirmed that no stone would be left unturned, promising ruthless execution of the governmentβs directive to dismantle drug and alcohol networks.
Dr. Omerikwa also commended the National Police Service and other security agencies for their role in the operation.
βThis significant disruption of criminal activities in Sigalagala is proof of what we can achieve when we work together. This is a shared fight for the soul of our nation,β he stated.
The two suspects are expected to be presented in court.
