Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspected drug trafficker in Kisii South Sub-County and seized a consignment of cannabis sativa.

The arrest followed a tip-off from members of the public, prompting officers from Gesonso Police Station to mount a roadblock along the Migori–Kisumu Highway.

According to police, a dark grey Toyota Sienta, registration number KCB 752A, was flagged down but the driver defied orders, ramming through metal spikes in a bid to escape. A dramatic chase ensued before the vehicle was immobilised after all its tyres were deflated.

The driver, identified as 43-year-old John Njomo Ndung’u, attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended. A search of the vehicle uncovered five and a half gunny bags of cannabis sativa, which have since been secured as exhibits together with the impounded vehicle.

The suspect is being held in custody at Gesonso Police Station pending arraignment.
