Being as gentle as I can with my words here, but I really hate the argument that Alicia had no life outside the canvas.
Why? "she has chronic pain, a mean mom, and a dead brother."
Okay and? We learn several times over that the family IS loving and caring (blessings to Eldest Sister-Parent Clea). No family is perfect. Their dynamic is challenging. But this isn't an abuse story and shouldn't be painted (lol) as one. This is a grief story.
But my real issue:
Said with love and light -- there's something quite fucked up when people say that Alicia's out-of-canvas life is ruined by how the accident physically disabled her. SO ruined, in fact, that the canvas is the only place where she can "live a full life."
Alicia's grief over the body she had before the fire and the body she has now is a fantastic and beautiful thread in the game and motivates her behavior at a several important junctures.
But that's HER grief. Not a universal take on disability.
Don't co-opt it by running head first into a eugenics argument.
There is a whole fulfilling life for her outside the canvas -- that's the point.
Edit: not that y'all deserve this, but i literally have multiple sclerosis so you can walk back all the "if you were one of us you'd know better" comments. Back off.
Edit 2: and it's garbage to try and shut people down with that sort of language. You don't need to be disabled to know that disabled people can live fulfilling lives. That's the point of my post. The call is coming from inside the house. Respectfully, look inward.
Edit 3: I apparently am also not disabled enough to be commenting on any of this. Truly I am schrodinger's cat.
