After Zetech Sparks secured a commanding sweep over Strathmore Swords in the Kenya National Basketball Womenβs League semifinals to book their place in the finals last weekend, head coach Maurice Obilo praised his playersβ resilience, discipline, and heart.
Zetech won Game Three of the semi-final playoffs 67-43 at the Nyayo Gymnasium over the weekend, following their wins in Games One and Two, 68-52 and 76-43, a week earlier, to book their final slot in style.
βWe took it one game at a time,β the coach said.
βI truly appreciate the ladies for showing respect and playing their hearts out in all three games. Their commitment and teamwork were outstanding. From our side, we delivered exactly the way we had expected. The preparation, focus, and execution all came together on the court, and I couldnβt be prouder of the effort,β he said.
The coach quickly acknowledged the quality of their semifinal opponents, noting the challenge they presented.
βIt has not been easy. It was a very, very tough team, which we expected. A university team brings a lot into the game, and when you meet, you know it will be a good matchup. I respect those girls, and I also respect their coach. I know what they do, and we expected them to play like that,β Obilo added.
With the sweep behind them, Sparks now turn their focus to the finals, motivated to carry forward their momentum while remaining grounded and respectful of the competition ahead.
The students will face the giants Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in the final playoffs, starting this coming weekend in Mombasa for Game One and Two.
βWe are going to give it our best. We are going to play to the best of our level. We need to adjust one or two things brutally, without any pressure. Because at this level, the ladies have already achieved a lot.
They are all students playing in a club competition league, and that is special to me. We are okayβwe will give the finals our best and push ourselves to the highest level we can,β the soft-spoken tactician emphasized.
