โHundreds of thousands of people in the fan parks. The feedback I was given by the president of the Kenyan football โ huge amounts of people. The number was 40 million. In Kenya alone, 140,000 in the fan parks. In Tanzania, Uganda โ the interest has been abnormal. This is an excellent foundation for AFCON 2027.โ

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe and FIFA President Gianni Infantino have hailed the recently concluded 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) as a resounding success โ calling it the most successful edition in the tournamentโs history.
The month-long competition wrapped up on Saturday with Morocco being crowned champions for a record third time.
Speaking during the CAF Executive Committee meeting, Dr. Motsepe emphasized CHAN's growing importance in the African football ecosystem and its untapped potential.

Motsepe stressed that CHAN 2024 proved, beyond reasonable doubt, why the tournament should not be written off urging more private partners to join and support football initiatives in the continent.
โWe look at this as part of, in East Africa now, we are hosting this big competition of the continent. We are enormously happy with the results, the numbers, and the feedback. Itโs an investment that will contribute enormously to football development, not only in East Africa but across the continent.โ
FIFA President Gianni Infantino echoed those sentiments, praising the growing football culture in East Africa and its potential to reshape continental narratives.
โEast Africa is an incredible part of Africa with incredible talent,โ Infantino said. โWhile football is often seen as more prominent in the West or South, the East is often neglected which isnโt true at all, the passion here is real, new stadiums are being built, and infrastructure is coming together.โ
Infantino also hinted at a major development project in the region citing the FKF Technical centre which President Ruto handed the title deed with Ground works expected to start soon .
โI want to thank President Ruto, who shares a great passion for football, and his government for gifting the site to FIFA and the Football Kenya Federation. I have every faith that FKF President Hussein Mohammed and his team will give this exciting project all their passion and effort. With the support of FIFA, as well as the guidance of CAF, led by President Patrice Motsepe, we will ensure Kenyan football takes a big step forward.โ
With Morocco lifting the trophy and millions across East Africa tuning in and showing up in droves, CHAN 2024 has laid down a strong marker โ not just for local-based players, but for the future of African football at large.
