My reddit account is 8 years old and I’ve never posted anything until now πŸ‘‹

I’m an RSS and Apple nerd from way back. Lately, I’ve been getting frustrated with the state of RSS apps and news sites: AI junk, paywalls, intrusive ads, β€œsubscribe to my newsletter!” popups, and paid subscriptions that bundle in features you can’t opt out of. Even apps I lovedβ€”like Reederβ€”have been marked β€œclassic” and replaced with subscription versions.

So, I decided to build the app I wanted to use. What started as a side project turned into a year-long passion, and I recently released it on the App Store.

Here’s what I wanted in an RSS app:

  • Runs on all Apple platforms, not just iPhone
  • Feels like a native Apple app
  • No subscription
  • Secure iCloud syncing with zero setup
  • Blocklists for filtering unwanted topics
  • Backups
  • No lock-in (portable via .OPML)
  • Tagging system
  • Topic grouping

You can check it out here: https://xetabit.com/apps/newsbin/

EDIT: Direct link https://apps.apple.com/us/app/newsbin/id6737723338

I’ve received some nice feedback from early users who’ve found it organically, so I figured I’d share it here.
