The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader, Rigathi Gachagua has condemned politicians for what he termed as 'deafening silence' over the alleged entry of Jubaland forces in Mandera County.
Speaking during the burial service of teacher Grace Wanjira Mwinga in Mathioya Constituency, Murang'a County, Gachagua criticised Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen for dismissing the reports, citing that the government must take action to secure the safety of Mandera residents.
He noted that leaders have spoken out on the matter since he first raised concerns.
Further, he questioned why CS Murkomen disregarded the reports, despite the Mandera Governor himself acknowledging the presence of Jubaland forces in the county.
He also claimed that these forces have reigned terror in the county by killing five people and injuring seven others, adding that a school has since been closed as a result.
"Na wewe waziri unashindana na gavana mwenye ako kwa ground. Wananchi wanasema iko magaidi. Sisi tutawatetea, kuwa iko shida pale," he stated.
"Wameua watu 5 na kujeruhi watu 7. Shule imefungwa. Iko hali ya taharuki na lazima hawa askari waondoke Kenya, warudi kwao."
His remarks differ from CS Murkomen, who recently noted that the government has launched investigations into the matter and would deal with any criminal elements according to the law.
"When there are challenges, there are citizens who feel endangered and run from neighbouring countries to Kenya. We can't confirm now whether they're forces from where or who they are," Murkomen stated in Busia on September 4, 2025.
"It's only until you do proper security analysis and investigations to know if it's forces or civilians. If we reach a stage where there's any challenge, we will tell the country, but at the moment, we don't have any difficulty."
Various leaders have criticised the government for remaining silent while claiming that the Jubaland forces are crippling services in Mandera.
βMandera cannot be turned into a battleground for Somalia. We have no interest in Somalia, we have no business to be involved in their internal affairs,β Mandera Governor Adan Khalif noted.
They have since appealed to President William Ruto to deploy the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to Mandera to expel the forces allegedly operating within the town.
