Coffee Cooperative societies from across the country have threatened to withdraw from the National Coffee Exchange and register a new entity through which they will be selling their coffee.
Cooperative society leaders drawn from 10 counties, Bomet, Kericho, Baringo, Nyeri, Kisii, Kirinyaga, Makueni, west Pokot , Machakos ,Bungoma said that the national coffee exchange is working in cohort with the government to force farmers to accept the DSS payment.
National Coffee Cooperative Union chairman Felix Mwai said that farmers from across the country will now register their organisation under which they will be selling their coffee abandoning the national coffee exchange.
The cooperative societies have also accused financial institutions of being the conveyor belt for the implementation of the DSS system.
Speaking in Kirinyaga after attending a court case under which they have sued the government opposing the implementation of the DSS, the officials said they will not continue doing business with entities that are geared towards oppressing the farmers.
NACCU secretary general Bahama Muriithi said that the President should stop engaging brokers who do not have coffee plantations and instead call the actual farmers in order to stop implementing laws that are oppressive to the farmers.
The court case however did not proceed and always adjourned until September 3, 2025.
