Charley reveals that she is forced to work for Prater who has been paying for treatment for Charley's cancer-stricken mother and that her actions were all done on Prater's direct orders. Angel continues his pursuit of Dexter, but the revelation that he is operating outside of the law destroys his credibility with the NYPD who confiscate Angel's badge. Having seen Dexter with Prater, Angel approaches him and reveals Dexter's true identity. Prater lures Dexter into a trap in his vault where he offers to be Dexter's benefactor on the condition that he kill Angel. Unable to bring himself to do it, Dexter cuts Angel free who attacks Dexter in a rage. Angel is fatally shot by Prater who locks Dexter in the vault. Dexter confesses that he's the Bay Harbor Butcher, but did not kill Doakes and LaGuerta. Angel dies cursing Dexter's name, leaving Dexter devastated and enraged at his friend's death.[/td]
