The Ministry of Education has announced the disbursement of Ksh.23.16 billion to support 802,159 university and TVET students across the country.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba, in a statement on Friday, said the funds have been released through the Universities Fund and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
βThe Universities Fund has disbursed Ksh.4.1 billion to public universities in scholarship support for students. The Higher Education Loans Board has disbursed Ksh.19.06 billion comprising Ksh.7.6 billion for tuition and Ksh.11.46 billion for student upkeep,β said CS Ogamba.
He explained that upkeep funds have already been sent to studentsβ designated payment channels as they report to their respective institutions.
The CS urged beneficiaries to confirm the status of their allocations through the HELB portals, explaining that upkeep funds have already been sent to studentsβ designated payment channels as they report to their respective institutions.
To accommodate first-year learners, the ministry has directed an extension of the deadline for applications to September 14, 2025.
The CS further assured learners of the governmentβs commitment to continue providing the requisite funding to ensure that higher education remains accessible and affordable to all students.
The new disbursement comes a week after the Ministry, through the HELB, disbursed Ksh.9.46 billion to support 309,178 university students.
CS Ogamba, in a statement on Tuesday last week, said Ksh.5.76 billion of the total funds would be channelled for tuition fees while the remaining Ksh.3.7 billion would go to student upkeep.
