I looked and so far have only found additional material supporting the 1973 date: [https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-star-ledger-boys-chorus-plans-commen/176080784/ a brief newspaper article from 1987 with a Newark Boys Chorus School commencement announcement] that mentions "Rasheed Bell of Hillside", along with [https://www.classmates.com/people/rasheed-bell/8687424830 a Classmates.com page (sourced from a yearbook) that says class of 1991 from Blair Academy high school].
