Sotheby’s New York To Auction Largest Known Piece of Mars on Earth | N18G A 54-pound (25-kilogram) Mars piece is going up for auction by Sotheby’s in New York. The estimated auction price of the Martian meteorite is expected to be between $2 million and $4 million. Named NWA 16788, the Mars piece will go up for auction on July 16 as part of a natural history-themed sale that also includes a juvenile Ceratosaurus dinosaur skeleton that's more than 6 feet tall and nearly 11 feet long. According to Sotheby’s, the meteorite is believed to have been blown off the surface of Mars by a massive asteroid strike before travelling 140 million miles to Earth, where it crashed into the Sahara. A meteorite hunter found it in Niger in November 2023. --- Sotheby’s New York | Mars | NWA 16788 | Firstpost | News Live | World News | Latest News | Global News | International News | News | Trending News #sothebys #mars #nwa16788 #firstpost #newslive #worldnews #latestnews #globalnews #news #internationalnews #trendingnews Firstpost is an Indian news and media website.
