Generic Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be prepared to take the oath of office and undergo training as determined by the National Commissioner.

  • Have no visible tattoos when wearing SAPS uniforms.
  • Not have been dismissed from any government department due to misconduct involving dishonesty, violence, sexual harassment, or drug-related issues.
  • Allow fingerprints and buccal (DNA) samples for verification.
  • Undergo security vetting and background checks.
  • Be willing to serve anywhere in South Africa.

Additional Requirements

Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • A valid driver’s license for at least a light motor vehicle.
  • A relevant three-year tertiary qualification (NQF 6 or higher) in fields such as Criminal Law, Policing, Criminology, Forensic Investigation, or Information Technology (for placement in specialized units like DPCI, Detective Services, or Crime Intelligence).
  • A Grade 12 certificate with minimum requirements for admission to a Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma, or Higher Certificate.

Selection Process

Applicants will undergo:

  • Psychometric and integrity assessments.
  • Physical fitness tests (e.g., 2.4km run, push-ups, sit-ups).
  • Medical evaluations (vision, hearing, overall health).
  • Fingerprint, background, and social media checks.
  • A personal interview.

Note: Applicants with chronic diseases or physical impairments that may interrupt training may be excluded. Failure to disclose health conditions could lead to withdrawal from the programme.
