LIVE: Trump Extends Tariff Deadline, Sends Letters To 14 Countries | Vantage with Palki Sharma US President Donald Trump has delayed the imposition of new tariffs on imports from July 9 to August 1. At the same time, he escalated the trade war, warning 14 countries, including Japan and South Korea, that they will face significantly higher tariffs from that date. Trump left the door open for further negotiations, but made it clear that any retaliatory measures would be met with equal force. "Please understand that these tariffs are necessary to correct years of Japan's tariff and non-tariff policies causing unsustainable trade deficits. This deficit is a major threat to our economy and indeed our national security," read his letter to Japan.
