Kenya has launched the TechPlomacy Connective, a bold initiative placing Nairobi at the center of global conversations on technology diplomacy and ethical AI governance.
The launch, led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, marks a major step in aligning digital innovation with diplomacy, ethics, and inclusive development.
“Kenya is not just participating in the global tech conversation—we’re helping shape it,” Mudavadi said.
Spearheaded by Ambassador Philip Thigo, Kenya’s Special Tech Envoy, the platform seeks to turn Kenya’s high digital engagement—averaging 4 hours, 13 minutes daily—into meaningful outcomes.
“Let’s move beyond rhetoric,” said Thigo. “Our connectivity must drive productivity, innovation, and inclusion.”
The event drew strong diplomatic backing. Belgium became the first foreign embassy in Kenya to recruit an AI specialist, showing commitment to Kenya’s tech diplomacy.
“Technology is disruptive—but we must guide it toward equity and progress,” said Belgian Ambassador Peter Maddens.
UN Tech Envoy Dr. Amandeep Gill praised Kenya’s leadership, citing Africa’s potential as home to a third of future tech talent—despite having less than 1% of global data center capacity.
