- Speaking after a closed-door meeting with the regional and county security team, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen noted that a return to relative calm in the disturbed areas, especially Turkana South and East, has necessitated the review.

The government is set to review the six-to-six curfew imposed in Kainuk, Turkana, over the last three years to curb the runaway insecurity.
Speaking after a closed-door meeting with the regional and county security team, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen noted that a return to relative calm in the disturbed areas, especially Turkana South and East, has necessitated the review.
The government is now admitting it has yet to verify how many people died or are still missing following the Todonyang attack.
After months of dusk-to-dawn restrictions on movement within the volatile region, residents of Turkana may soon resume their normal life and enjoy nightlife.
The government now says it is reviewing the security situation at the volatile Kainuk area bordering Turkana and West Pokot County, with an aim of lifting the existing 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. curfew put in place to restore peace following deadly confrontations between law enforcement officers and warring communities.
“We are doing everything possible to first guarantee security to citizens and local administrators,” said Murkomen.
While presiding over a Jukwaa la Usalama security assessment baraza in Turkana County, the Interior CS also announced that a multi-agency team is being set up in the volatile Todonyang, Turkana North, to commence recovery and support systems in order to establish the exact number of deaths and missing persons who fell victim to the February fishermen massacre in Lake Turkana by suspected Ethiopian militia.
“The government cannot still establish the exact figure of fatalities or missing persons unless reports are officially made to authorities. It was a complex and dynamic tragedy in the lake,” stated Murkomen.
The CS, who launched new portable identification printing machines in Lodwar, assured applicants that they would be issued with the new IDs within three days.
Law enforcement officers want the NPS top leadership to provide the necessary infrastructure in order to guarantee safety to citizens.
