The grandmother suggests reading a novel about a former delinquent who transforms into a vigilante. The novel's plot, set in the 1980s, follows this vigilante and an associate—recently released from prison—as they embark on a deadly quest for retribution, targeting specific individuals across various villages. Their actions also involve rescuing victims of forced labor and punishing their exploiters. A police inspector, aided by a constable, investigates these incidents and identifies the vigilante and their associate as the perpetrators. Information from a lawyer reveals the vigilante's tragic past: a happy family life shattered by an unjust imprisonment and a brutal assault on a family member, resulting in a spouse's death and a child's wrongful incarceration, orchestrated by those the vigilante now hunts. In the present narrative of the novel, the vigilante and their associate continue their violent quest, leading to further deaths, including that of someone who takes their own life out of guilt and another's spouse and then the individual themselves.
