Former AFC Leopards head coach Gilbert Selebwa feels there is a great opportunity for the club to restore its lost glory, under the newly elected team led by ex-international Boniface Ambani.
Selebwa who recently parted ways with National Super League (NSL) side Samwest FC has urged Ambani, Secretary General Isaac Mulindi and Treasurer Newton Lime to quickly strategise on how to turn on the lights at the den again, after taking over from the Dan Shikanda-led regime last month.
He has underlined the need to ride on the goodwill the new leadership is enjoying especially in the early spell of their tenure.
“I urge Ambani and his colleagues to lay down a perfect strategy on how to win the league but this must be achieved by first of all putting the office in order. As the new broom they have to sweep every cobweb out, clean the office to have the best tools that will enable them take the team to the next level,” noted Selebwa.
“Bring on board players that have that capacity to win the title and as well look for enough sponsors to help roll the club financially because the market value of Ingwe and our rivals Gor Mahia is so high with a lot of demand as far as finances are concerned,” he added.
Boniface and his elder brother Fred Ambani who is the current head coach played for Leopards in 1998 when Ingwe last won the league title under Selebwa as the Team Manager.
“When AFC Leopards won their last league title I was the Team Manager while Boniface who is the Chairman was my player as well as Fred Ambani who is the head coach and they were very sensational players,” Selebwa said adding that the two have that appetite to help this team to start winning titles and move to the next level.
The last title Leopards won was in 2017 when they beat Kariobangi Sharks 2-0 in the FKF Cup final, and fans continue to thirst for glory days.
