Ahmedabad Air India Crash Report: Plane’s Engines Shut, Fuel Supply Halted The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has released a preliminary probe report in the Air India Ahmedabad Plane crash that killed at least 260 people on June 12. The 15-page report provides a timeline of a series of events before the crash. According to the report, the plane carried out a routine takeoff, but seconds later, a shift in fuel control switches was recorded. The switches moved from "RUN" to "CUTOFF" position, which halted fuel supply and subsequently caused the engines to lose thrust. The black box recording revealed the pilots’ conversation after the engines faltered. One pilot asked the other, "Why did you cut off (fuel supply)?" He responded, saying that he did not. The report does not state how the switches flipped positions. Even after the pilots moved both fuel switches back to the run position, only engine 1 recovered and stopped deceleration, the report states. One of the pilots made a "Mayday" call before the crash.
