Joash Ochieng Ajwang has been arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts to face charges of rape and robbery with violence following an incident that allegedly occurred on June 22, 2025, in Reuben slums, Industrial Area, Nairobi County.
Ajwang is accused of unlawfully raping a woman identified in court as NMK. He is further charged with robbing her of a Samsung mobile phone valued at Kshs. 14,000 and Kshs. 3,000 in cash. Court documents indicate that he was armed with a panga and allegedly used violence during the commission of the offence.
During his plea, Resident Magistrate Wandia Nyamu cautioned the accused that a conviction for robbery with violence attracts a mandatory death sentence under Kenyan law.
Ajwang was arrested on July 31, 2025. The court ordered that he be remanded for DNA sampling and granted bond of Kshs. 300,000 pending further proceedings.
