It was her first [[US Open (tennis)|US Open]] singles title and second [[Grand Slam (tennis)#Tournaments|major]] singles title overall. Williams became the second woman to win [[2000 Wimbledon Championships – Women's singles|Wimbledon]], the [[Tennis at the 2000 Summer Olympics – Women's singles|Olympics]], and the US Open in the same season (after [[Steffi Graf]] in [[1988 WTA Tour|1988]]).
